The Arts Factory Las Vegas

The Arts Factory Las Vegas logo

The Arts Factory is proud to be the geographic and creative center of the 18b Las Vegas Arts District. The Arts Factory is a 50-year-old commercial warehouse building with traditional bowstring truss architecture. It sits near the junction of Charleston Boulevard and Main Street in an old section of downtown Las Vegas. The conversion of the Arts Factory into a thriving commercial art center started in 1997.
The featured artists represent a broad range of contemporary and traditional styles, media, and interests. In addition to its commercial activities, the Arts Factory provides an artistic lifeline and facility for many educational functions and community group meetings, including a weekly Life Drawing class, monthly board meetings of the 18b Las Vegas Arts District Neighborhood Association, the Las Vegas Sculpture Park, UNLV, and local high school student art exhibitions, fund raiser events for notable local and national charities, and the Smithsonian Institute lecture series. The Arts Factory has also provided a unique cultural venue for over 300 musical concerts, poetry readings, and live theatrical performances.

The 18b Arts District participates in Gallery Openings and an Art Walk festival on the first Friday of every month – from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. The night before each “First Friday” all our studios are open to give a sneak preview of new artwork – it’s an ideal opportunity to meet our artists without a crowd. “Preview Thursday” has become the unofficial “collector’s night” and runs from 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

Free parking is available at the rear of our building just off Charleston Blvd. and Art Way on a little street called Boulder Ave.

Located just 1 block from the 18b Las Vegas Arts District Bus Station on Casino Center Drive.

Dig This Heavy Equipment Playground Las Vegas

Dig This Heavy Equipment Playground Las Veg

DIG THIS

Dig This Bulldozer

America's first and only heavy equipment playground where YOU'RE in control. Re-live your sandbox days of being a child but this time it's for real. Huge Caterpillar bulldozers and excavators await you in one of the most memorable experiences you will ever encounter.

This is not only a "One of a Kind" Vegas experience -- it is a One of a Kind experience -- period.

Perfect for the big kids at heart (14 years and older), this attraction allows you the chance to operate a state-of-the-art "Caterpillar" D-5 track-type bulldozer or 315CL hydraulic excavator. If you choose to take on the bulldozer, you'll get to dig trenches, ride over tall mounds and push gigantic boulders.

In addition to pushing boulders, with the excavator you'll have the chance to lift 2,000-pound tires and stack them up into a pyramid formation. In addition to these activities, with the excavator you'll have the chance to take basketballs one by one and place them on cones. Whether you choose the excavator or bulldozer ride, both missions are challenging and fun. And with five acres of a super-sized sand box, you'll definitely have room to get down and dirty.

After a brief safety and equipment orientation, you'll be given a hard hat, vest and radio. Once you climb aboard, you'll be operating an excavator or bulldozer in no time.

2014 USA Sevens Rugby Las Vegas

USA Sevens Rugby Logo

Started in 1999, the HSBC Sevens World Series is an annual elite-level competition series between nations, whose top professional rugby players compete against each other throughout the year for the World Series Title.  National Teams compete for the HSBC Sevens World Series title by accumulating points based on their finishing position in each of the nine series tournaments. Beginning in 2012, Japan will become the ninth stop on the world tour. HSBC Sevens World Series is sanctioned by the International Rugby Board (IRB). USA Sevens is the US-based tournament that is owned and operated by USA Sevens LLC.

Played on the same size field as traditional 15 a-side rugby, sevens rugby is played with only seven players per team. In addition to a keen understanding of how the game is played, pure speed and athleticism are the foundation for the sevens rugby standout. The game is played with non-stop action, thrilling attacks and game saving tackles.
The USA Sevens debuted at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, California in February 2004, marking the first time the United States ever hosted an official IRB event of this magnitude and world importance. The tournament is now held in the party capital of the world, Las Vegas.
With 16 Nations, 44 Games and 3 days of incredible days of action, USA Sevens is fast becoming one of the most exciting sporting events in the United States. The tournament has continued to see a massive increase in attendance for the past several years. By all accounts the fans really embraced the event, and made the 2013 USA 7s the biggest and most commercially successful rugby event ever. USA Sevens expects attendance to grow to increase again in 2014, especially since the tournament is adding a third event on Friday (1/24) night.

Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival

Movies are a Mitzvah!

The annual Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival is the Las Vegas Jewish community’s yearly celebration of Jewish drama, comedy and documentary from around the world. It is also Southern Nevada's longest-running film festival.

The LVJFF utilizes the art of film and interactive educational discourse to inform, entertain and strengthen the Jewish community while creating a forum where local Jewish organizations and synagogues (the LVJFF Presenting Sponsors) can provide cultural enrichment to their constituents, promote themselves and generate support.

The LVJFF also provides positive cultural outreach to the non-Jewish community by promoting diversity awareness and tolerance through greater understanding of Jewish identity, history, and culture. Additionally, the LVJFF helps to promote solidarity with Israel by presenting films that showcase Israel's cultural, social and political significance.

The 2014 LVJFF is produced by the Desert Space Foundation and the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada with major support provided by the Adelson Educational Campus, the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas and generous contributions from numerous donors in our community.

Individual General Admission Tickets are $10.00 and good for admission to any one film in the film festival schedule. Tickets are available online and from all the Presenting Sponsors.

Film Festival Passes are $50.00 and good for admission to all films in the film festival schedule. Passes are available online.

Las Vegas Conventions in January

from about.com
Las Vegas is a convention city. More people flock to this once dusty town in the Southern Nevada each year for business events that any other city in the United States. Estimates suggest that in 2011 the economic impact of conventions reached $6.3 billion.
While there are literally hundreds of conventions each year this article will focus on the bigger events to come to Las Vegas in January.  From the biggest of the big in the Consumer Electronics Show to the naughtiest if the naught with the AVN Awards the convention season in Las Vegas begins the year with a bang.

New Media Expo Las Vegas
The New Media Expo: Each year Las Vegas is invaded by thousands of bloggers, social media gurus and others on the cutting edge of new media. It is a great place to network, learn new techniques. It is the place to be if you want to be on the cutting edge of the future of online media.
The New Media Expo Official Website. January 4th - 6th, 2014.

The Consumer Electronics Show: The Consumer Electronics Show is arguably the biggest convention on the Las Vegas Convention calendar. Each year over 150,000 geek heads, tech gurus and movers and shakers in the electronics industry descend on the Las Vegas Convention Center for a week of nerding out over the soon to be released must have tech. The iPhone, Xbox One and many an amazing gadget saw its first days of glory at CES.
CES Official Website January 7 - 10, 2014.

The Promotional Products Association International: It may sound like business speak to you and I, but he PPAI draws upwards of 20,000 people a year. What are they in Las Vegas for? Promotional items are anything that businesses give away to get their name out intot he marketplace. From the old standby, the pen to mouse pads to cutting edge gadget, widgets and swag, this is a fun place to wander about if you own a business that you want to get attention for.
The PPAI Official Website. Janury 13th - 17th, 2014.

The Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show: This annual event that caters to fans of the Second Ammendment. It is a gathering of hunters, outdoors-men and those who love the wilds of our great country. I have two friends with decidedly different opinions on this event. One says it is "the greatest representation of America" and the other says it is for those "who love to kill cute animals for no reason." While both have their aspects of truth, I imagine most pf us fall somewhere in the middle.
The Shot Show Official Website. January 14th - 17th, 2014.

AVN Adult Expo and the AVN Awards: Aptly dubbed the Porn Oscars the AVN Awards Show is the culminating event of the annual AVN Adult Expo. Think of it as Comic Con for naughty movies, but these fanboys won't be lining up for a Stan Lee signing session, though I suspect many of them have his autograph as well. Over 25,000 attendees descend upon the Hard Rock Hotel for this annual event and it remains one of the best people watching opportunities in Vegas.
January 15th - 18th , 2014.

The World of Concrete: While this may sound like the worst idea for a Disney theme attraction in the world, this convention that caters to those who build our modern world one batch of concrete at a time draws 50,000 people a year. While concrete may seem boring to you and me, it is a realm rife with constant technological changes. The World of Concrete is where the movers and shakers in their industry begin to build their brand.
The World of Concrete Official Website. January 20th - 24th, 2014.

The Las Vegas Market: Home goods, furniture and various gifts are the focus of the Las Vegas Market. Each January 50,000 home desgners, builders, shop owners and buyers come to Vegas to see the newest of the new in home furnishing and decor. If you like shopping at Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn or even Target then this is the show you'll want to attend.
The Las Vegas Market Official Website. January 26th - 30th, 2014.

Surfaces: This expo is for anyone in the tile, flooring and stone business. It brings together those who make these items with those who install them and is a great educational tool for builders and consumers alike. 25,000 people attend Surfaces annually and it tops the month of January off with a well polished endcap.

New Year's Eve in Las Vegas

The Strip fills with revelers. Fireworks light up the sky. The casinos are body-to-body, the showrooms filled with A-list entertainers and Vegas is more gloriously alive than you've ever seen it. New Year's Eve in Vegas is a world-class celebration.

New Year's Eve 2013 - 2014 Fireworks

Then, recap 2013 with a video retrospective before counting down to midnight with mayor Carolyn G. Goodman.

New Year's Eve Las Vegas 2013 - 2014 Tips

New Year's Eve in Las Vegas -- the mere concept can make one tingle with anticipation at the prospects: carte blanche to enjoy the finest drinking, dining and dancing in the Entertainment Capital of the World with 300,000 of your closest friends and more celebrities than a year's worth of TMZ. The key to making New Year's Eve 2013 - 2014 in Vegas successful is planning ahead. Once you're down on the Strip, you don't want any surprises. So if you're choosing to join the masses ringing in 2014 in Sin City, make like a Boy Scout and be prepared with these tips:

Book early
With all of the star-studded parties, fireworks and headliner concerts, there's nowhere else on earth quite like Las Vegas to ring in the New Year and everyone knows it. Hotel rooms sell out early and prices can soar for the holiday, so make sure to book your room as soon as possible to get the best prices and your first choice of accommodations.

Traffic can be challenging in Vegas on a regular day and when you throw in hundreds of thousands of extra people to the mix for New Year's Eve, it can be downright nasty. If you're planning to party on the Strip, get there early, even if you're going to attend an event or party within a casino. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shut down Las Vegas Boulevard (better known as the Strip) between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road to cross-traffic as early as 6 p.m. If you need to travel across the Strip (east-west), use the Desert Inn super-arterial (which runs under the Strip). For north-south travel (parallel to Las Vegas Boulevard), try Frank Sinatra Drive to the west or Koval Lane to the east. Either way, plan extra time for jammed roads.

If you're not a fan of huge throngs of people dancing or huge throngs of people standing around drinking then don't pick a club, Las Vegas Boulevard or the Fremont Street Experience as your New Year's Eve headquarters. A lot of the shows in town do something special for the occasion, too, so you could catch a Broadway show and then toast another year with a bunch of like-minded people.

Take a virtual look at last year's Vegas New Year's Eve Fireworks below.

Happy New Year !
